Abstract: (Elsevier)
Differential cross sections have been measured for (d, p) and (t, p) reactions leading to levels of 55 Cr. Some spin assignments have been made using the values of the angular momentum transfer obtained from the angular distributions for both reactions; spin assignments for levels observed by l n = 1 and l n = 3 transitions in the (d, p) reaction have been made using empirical J -dependence. One level of J = 7 2 − , possible two, has been located and it is suggested that it has been observed in the (d, p) reaction as a result of higher-order processes and not via particle-hole admixtures in the wave function of the target nucleus. It is shown that substantial admixtures of 2p 1 2 and 1f 5 2 neutron pairs exist in the 54 Cr ground state wave function and that these data are compatible with that of the (p, d) reaction. The level structure of 55 Cr is discussed and shown to be similar to that of 59 Ni.- Nuclear reactions
