Abstract: (Elsevier)
Quantum electrodynamics at finite temperature is studied from the point of view of mass generation. Using Ueda's definition of the temperature-dependent mass of the particle on its mass shell at zero temperature and the real time formalism, results obtained by earlier workers are rederived in a manifestly gauge invariant fashion. Some cosmological implications of the plasmon effect are discussed.
