Abstract: (Elsevier)
We calculate the phase diagram obtained by varying a chirally invariant four-fermion interaction as well as the usual gauge coupling g in hamiltonian lattice QED. We employ a strong-coupling expansion to fourth order ( 1 g 8 ) and monitor poles in the Padé approximants to find the critical gauge coupling g c . We find that the new phase of QED can be reached even for weak g if the four-fermion coupling is sufficiently strong.- QUANTUM ELECTRODYNAMICS
