Abstract: (Elsevier)
New data on the charge-symmetric superratio R and the simple ratios r ′ 1 and r ′ 2 are reported for π + and π − elastic scattering from 3 H and 3 He at T π =142, 180, and 220 MeV at θ π (lab) from 40° to 110°; R≡ d σ(π + 3 H ) d σ(π − 3 H ) d σ(π − 3 He ) d σ(π + 3 He ) , r′ 1 = d σ(π + 3 H ) d σ(π − d ) d σ(π − 3 He ) d σ(π + d ) , and r′ 2 = d σ(π − 3 H ) d σ(π + d ) d σ(π + 3 He ) d σ(π − d ) . We find that R >1, r′ 1 ⋍1 , and r ′ 2 >1 at all energies and angles. These results are not accounted for by any of the available calculations which attempt to include only electromagnetic effects. This disagreement suggests that the violation of charge symmetry is due to a combination of strong and electromagnetic effects.- PI+ LIGHT NUCLEUS: ELASTIC SCATTERING
